What is a Roof Felt Underlayment?

A roofing underlayment is typically an asphalt or synthetic membrane that is laid between the roof deck and the roof covering. On standard pitched roofs the underlayment is rolled out and nailed to the deck while on lower pitched roofs the underlayment is adhered directly to the roof deck. Standard roofing felts are available in several different weights and several different products.
Roofing manufactures will allow most brands, weights and types of underlayments to be used with their products and still keep the warranty, but it is always best to check.
